drone camp 2019
The 2019 Drone Camp was held at Red Sky Studios on November 16th from 10 AM - 7 PM. Throughout the day we held 8 workshops, 3 demonstrations, and 2 panel discussions about important topics within the drone industry. All the workshops, demos and panels were led by leaders within the industry and professionals on the topic of discussion.
What is 360 Photography? In this workshop you’ll learn how to capture, edit, and post your aerial 360° photos and videos. Learn the difference between trending 360° cameras, how to attach a 360° camera to a drone, and how to capture a “tiny planet” and fully immersive 360° photo.
This workshop will be led by 360° industry respected influencer, the master behind Creator Up!, Hugh Hou.
For this workshop learning objectives include: camera settings for aerial shots regarding angle and composition, camera modes/shooting techniques for photo and video, and Lightroom and Photoshop basics for using luminosity and color masks.
This workshop will be led by established Drone Pilots and Aerial Photographers, Jamie Malcolm Brown and Andy Leclerec.
Are you an FPV drone racer, or simply a drone fanatic that’s looking for more adventure when flying? PID tuning on FPV drones is crucial to having a smooth flight at high speeds. Lamont Walton will take attendees through the PID Tuning process and explain step by step how to get the best tune possible.
This workshop will be led by Lamont Walton of BU FPV.
Have you ever felt limited by the regulations regarding where you can fly your drone? In this workshop, we’ll explore the FAA’s “UAS Data Delivery System” and how to navigate their ArcGIS UASFM page. Take a look at different LAANC suppliers, and how to apply for a 107.41WAA using The Drone Zone.
This workshop will be led by the owner of Drone U, Vic Moss.
Landscape photography is incredibly difficult to master. In this workshop you’ll learn tips and tricks to maximize results and improve your skills in choosing locations, framing your shots you take advantage of leading lines to enhance perspective, and how to render a large depth of field.
This workshop will be led by professional drone photographer, Chris Gibbs from Renegade Airlines.
In this course you will learn how to utilize temperature levels and illustrate in 3D what your drone is seeing when capturing photos and videos. Andy will provide an overview on the basics of emissivity/reflectivity, how to gather accurate data and understand resolution as the IR camera is viewing the subject in real time.
This workshop will be led by Andy Bakinowski, of Weston & Sampson.
Art Director, Charles Logan will discuss how ROTU has evolved over the years from producing live events, to filmmaking, and now the gaming industry. Cesar Suarez, Audio Director, will discuss how audio is one of the crucial elements used to make a VR storytelling experience compelling and immersive. From establishing a score to creating sound effects during gameplay, it is the role of the auditory component to aid and enhance the story being told.
Incorporating aerial shots into your production is what can allow your film to reach its true potential. In this workshop, we’ll focus on what equipment you’ll need on set when filming with drones, and how to organize your shotlists. Presenters will discuss the necessary insurance, airspace limitations, and challenges with drones.
This workshop will be led by Filmmaker, Benjamin Walter from The One Who Knocks Productions.
First person view (FPV) is simply video piloting through VR goggles that show the pilot exactly what the drone is seeing. Join FPV influencers Ole Gravy Leg (Matt Williamson), BotGrinder FPV, BU:FPV, and Say Andrea to see what the FPV community is all about! This demo will expose you to a variety of maneuvers, tips for fast flying in tight spaces, and how to get the most engaging shot possible.
Chris Franzwa, the software engineer for Verge Aero, will demoing how they use their unique software used to create large scale drone light shows.
Verge Aero is a Philadelphia based team of electrical, computer, software, systems, and aerospace engineers, whose mission is focused on building and deploying or drones, for use in the entertainment industry. Previous Verge Aero’s clients include: Coldplay, the Rolling Stones, and the Olympics.
Possibilities are endless with a heavy lift drone, attach your cinema camera on a production set and get amazing visuals from the sky. The Freefly Systems ALTA X with a wingspan of over 7 feet and the ability to carry just about anything including a MOVI, it makes it one of the most heavy duty drones on the market, and the ALTA X will be flown during the demo.
Drone Heavy Lift demo will be held in the Studio 1 of Red Sky Studios, and hosted by Matt Williamson of Above Summit.
Using light-rigs on drones can be extremely useful for flying at night and creating cinematic tracking shots. Join the Above Summit crew in Studio 1 at Red Sky Studios as we unveil our newest toy - the Freefly Systems Alta 6 complete with a light rig. Watch Matt Williamson, a.k.a. Ole Gravy Leg pilot the Alta 6 and take flight inside the studio. You don’t wanna miss this one!
This panel discussion will be led by renowned Aviation Attorney; Adj. Prof. Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology, Loretta Alkaly, FAA team member and Project Manager for Aerial Integration, Sam Nelson, Flight Operations Manager/Project Manager for MassDOT Aeronautics, and Vic Moss from Drone U .
During the panel discussion, our contributors will discuss topics such as laws governing aerial cinematography, exemptions for drone pilots, and answering legal questions surrounding the use of drone photography for news and media.
This panel discussion will be led by CEO of Ocean Alliance, Iain Kerr, software engineer for Verge Aero, Christopher Franzwa, UAS Operations & Regulatory Authority for Greensight, Robert Knochenhaur, and PhD student at MIT in the Robotics Group at Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab, Izzy Brand.
Drones and AI smart technology are just barely just scratching the surface of what we can learn from the world. How are drones used in other industries? Topics of discussion will include the impact of drones in research, growing use of drones across various industries, and new technological advances in drones.
